Like the appearance of record-breaking wildfire smoke in 2017, 2018 and 2020, the daily photographs of Weather Patterns also unexpectedly speak to the COVID 19 pandemic, this time through the pandemic's impact on global transportation.

Due to government restrictions around the globe, the second quarter of 2020 saw a historic decline of -27% in global shipping traffic over the previous year*. By early August, it had bounced back to just -3%.

On November 23rd the World Meteorological Organization stated that the COVID 19 economic slowdown has had no measurable impact on carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere**.
