In addition to being the 45th consecutive March where the temperature was above the average of the 20th century, March of 2021 saw the average concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere reach 50% above pre-industrial levels.
The Guardian reported Prof Simon Lewis, of University College London, as saying “It took over 200 years to increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by 25%, and just 30 years to reach 50% above pre-industrial levels. This dramatic change is like a human meteorite hitting Earth.”
